Land of Cisterns Akören

Located in the south of Konya and surrounded by mountains on three sides, Akören district is a remarkable region with its historical and natural attractions. Greek inscriptions, tear bottles, terracotta pot and pan fragments and ancient architectural pieces found in historical mounds and settlements such as Dinorna, Karahüyük, Horozun Hill, Gavurlar Bath and Akçeşme show that the region was heavily inhabited in prehistoric and Roman-Byzantine periods. The district, which was known by different names in its history, took the names "Avuran", "Avveren", "Avren", "Akviran" in time, and was registered as Akören in 1961.
